Busy Weekend

There was lots happening this weekend...

Friday a few students who weren't interning that day and/or got off from work early since it was Friday headed to Harvard Square with me...or better know in this area as "Hahvahd". We checked out the area and shops there for a couple of hours and just milled around. One of the students and I ventured through a few downtown streets back in Boston for a bit before heading back to the house. I only thought I was going to get a brief nap in before going out again, but I was wrong. Minutes after crashing on my bed I was up and moving again- this time headed to Chinatown with some of the interns. We ended up having Vietnamese for dinner....yes, in Chinatown. Dinner was better than I expected because when I've had Vietnamese food in D.C. in the past, it was terribly spicy. I had a great vermicelli chicken dish with veggies. I wouldn't however recommend taking a large bite of pickled carrot shreddings....they were rather disgusting! The first two photos are of my dish....then one of the pile of sprouts and stalks of mint leaves that are served with the bowls of soup. Finally, Ashley and I enjoying an "after dinner mint stalk".

After dinner we had some fun in Chinatown with the lions and then ventured around for a bit, eventually ending up in Little Italy at the Injectable Ice Cream Pastry Shop. I'll explain that one more another day with some pictures.

Saturday afternoon a few of us went to a free sailing event on the Charles River. It wasn't the nicest day but it was still fun to go sail again.

Following sailing we ventured crosstown to the huge farmer's market. I bought grapes and strawberries for a buck a bag/container. In other words, a dollar a pound....soooo much cheaper than the grocery store and I'm sure they were much better! I also bought my first "goods" off a street vendor- a Boston zip-up sweatshirt for only $15! I was very excited, especially given the fact that it was so cold Saturday! The rest of Saturday was a pretty lazy day for the majority of us as we lounged in the tv room and caught a nice afternoon nap or two. :D We ended the night with many of us playing spoons and other assorted card games and eating pizza and ice cream. It was a sad night when my entire 1/2 gallon of ice cream was eaten straight from the carton by only 4 or 5 of us. Of course that meant Sunday I had to replenish my Ice Cream stash!

Sunday afternoon we head back to Hahvahd. We went on a tour of the University given by some really enthusiastic students. They told us a lot of less-know and secret facts of the University and how some of the buildings got their names, etc. It was very interesting! Then some of us grabbed lunch at a pub that was recommended by out tour guide. It was there I saw one of the funniest pictures yet..."Congrats Grads...We'll miss your livers!" Wow, this was priceless, and I couldn't help but take a photo of it.

Here are some other photos of the Hahvahd area:

The famous toe to rub for luck

And this is THE very stage/stairs that Bill Gates and Bill Clinton stood on only 1 and 2 days earlier for Harvard Commencement Ceremonies.

This is a view I caught from inside the Subway while crossing the bridge on the way back from Hahvahd Sunday afternoon. The sailboats make it even more beautiful!

And that brings me to Sunday night...another lull of a night but a beautiful one indeed. Monday I spent the afternoon down by the river again and running some errands to get ready for Program activities I am organizing for the interns. Here are some photos that I took both today and last Thursday when I spent some time enjoying the river...

See the skyline....................lots of ducks!
the footbride to walk over from the house and then the view

I'm very excited that Samantha is coming out on Friday morning for the weekend. It will be so much fun and I'm sure I'll have a big update after the weekend, if not before!

Until next time...

Stephanie
