My theme for the post is kind of irony. I wanted it to rain, but it just rained too late! The service event was on yesterday due to overcast and partly sunny skies but NO RAIN! We did alot of work, but the event wasn't well planned. 60 people, one yard to landscape/lay sod in, and one front of a building to basically lay new mulch in and plant a few things somehow is just not 7 hours of work for us. We finished everything before lunch, and half of us were sitting on the steps just watching after about an hour worth of work because the yard was so tiny that only about a dozen people had anything to do. Oh well. We were home around 230pm which was nice instead of 430pm. I think every single person probably took a well-needed and deserved shower within a couple hours of returning- I know I took one within 5 minutes! :) Did a couple hours of computer work, and then I tried to take a nap only to be awaken (as usual) by one of the guys calling my cell phone. Then I am almost asleep again and the other comes pounding on our door (the two weren't communicating very well on plans for the night with us). So I gave up on my nap and just got up.
The plan for the night (after much deliberation) was to go down to Capitol Hill and the National Mall area. Supposidly there was a free movie playing somewhere down there. Well, we finally got to Dupont Circle to get on another bus instead of paying for the metro to get down there (bus transfer are free) and it was sprinkling. We got stuck under some scaffolding for about 20-25 minutes because it was downpouring so hard. The scaffolding proved to not be the most solid thing, as it was very leaky and we still got pretty wet along with the other bunch of people under it. Funny story....so the whole time it is thundering and lightening and raining cats and dogs we are standing across from a CVS Pharmacy. So when it let up a little we made a run for it and were going to buy umbrellas. We didn't take ours because it didn't appear that it was going to rain- after all, we planned on going to a movie outside! So I wonder if the price stickers change when it rains like this, but an umbrella was $10! I was willing to get wet rather than pay for that, so Jenny bought one and we moved on. We had to stop at Krisy Kreme donuts so John could get a hot one that was just made. Then as we walk out a guy was chasing us down with a wheeled cart of umbrellas saying "% dolla- 5 dollar!!!". Jenny was a little peeved. We continued walking through the rain (fairly heavy at times) to find the Greek restaurant that a lady told us was in Dupont. Well, we never found it, and as it rained harder and harder we ended up just going to Fuddruckers for a couple of hours and having dinner and talking. We tried to come up with ideas of things to do even though it was raining but weren't successful. Bowling was considered, but nobody had socks on! Thus, we ended up back here at the apartments and watched Kill Bill 2 (Kill Bill 1 was last weekend). I have to admit though, after about a half hour of it, I laid down on their floor and slept through most of the movie. Good times though all around.
Today, it is raining. We can't decide what to do. I would really like to do SOMETHING other than be lazy. My laundry is currently almost done which I am proud of. Laundry is so much easier and quicker to do when you do it on a regular basis, unlike at my apartment at school. :) There's talk of going to the National BBQ and checking out the festivities, visiting some Smithsonians (like every tourist will be today since it is raining), or maybe checking out the zoo. Who knows, but only time will tell.
Back to the beginning of my post and my comment about the irony in my title...well I know the last post I made was WANTING it to rain, but now I just want it to stop. It came too late to do any good. Oh well...life will go on and we will find SOEMTHING to do. For now, it is time to finish my laundry and figure out what others are up to on this gloomy Sunday....
Until next time....(I'll post some photos from the last couple days when i download them tonight)
